Launched to replace the ES-345, whose popularity was slowly declining, the Gibson ES-347 TD was produced between 1978 and 1991. Its semi-hollow body was equipped with coil-splittable pickups and an adjustable tailpiece.
This high-end ES model generally offered a brighter tone and significantly better sustain than other models in the series.
