Many vintage guitar experts agree that Fender pickups from the 1970s don't have the quality one expects from a vintage Fender. For this reason, some players take the opportunity to have their vintage pickups rewound to improve them. On this guitar, it was preferable to go straight for Fender Custom Shop Reissue 1950 pickups to make this guitar sound like its 1960s counterparts, and this has been completely successful. The issue of the three screws on the neck is minor, since the third screw, which is used to adjust the neck angle, and the three other screws are sufficient to secure the neck. So yes, Fenders from the 1970s can truly sound like the best, as this guitar proves.
