The 1969 Fender Stratocaster Hardtail, original sunburst finish, serial number 252968: The neck marking reads "22Aug69B," which means: 22 = Stratocaster, August 1969, B Profi. All the pickups have the date code 1109, corresponding to the 11th week of 1969; they are all original and have not been rewound. The pickup selector switch is a 5-way model and is not original. The potentiometers also appear to date from the same period: 137 69 29, week 29 of 1969. I always thought they weren't original, as they look fairly recent, but I've never verified the date code. I also consider the pickup covers and knobs to be original. They're identical to those on my other 1969 guitar, which has its original knobs. The pickguard isn't heavily worn, but it does have a tortoiseshell pattern on its underside. This pattern was specific to the 1969 and 1970 models, and it would probably be difficult to find one like it for a fixed-bridge guitar, but you can never be completely sure with plastic parts. The aluminum plate under the pickguard was probably added later for shielding; it can be removed. These aluminum plates were standard on pre-CBS models like the '63, but I don't think they were on the 1969 model. The nut has been replaced, but the original is in the case. The case isn't original.
This vintage Fender has the character and the very good Jimi Hendrix sound... It's in superb condition. One tuning peg is bent but still works. Virtually in its original condition, this guitar is a collector's item.
A Fender Stratocaster with serial number 252968 (no letter prefix on the neck plate) likely dates from 1968-1969. This range of numbers, just before the introduction of serial numbers beginning with "2" or "3" (1970s), corresponds to the CBS period of the late 1960s. For precise dating, it is recommended to check the date codes on the neck (under the heel) and the potentiometers. Period: Late 1960s (approximately 1968-1969).
