Case fender but not original
1964 Fender Jaguar Sunburst Vintage L Series Here is Leo Fender's last stroke of genius for the brand that bears his name, the Jaguar. This quirky yet charming guitar has finally found its place in the hearts of true guitar geeks, and this one is certainly one of the finest examples of this now highly desirable instrument. The body, neck, and potentiometers all date from 1963, but the serial number on the neck plate, which begins with an L, indicates that these parts were assembled in 1964. Aside from a refret, this beauty is entirely original, right down to the mute, which still has foam padding. There's even the bridge cover, which is purely for aesthetic purposes and which you'll likely remove if you want to be able to mute the strings. The wear is beautiful, more vibrant and unpredictable than on most relicing projects. There's a very noticeable belt buckle scratch on the back, the logo is partially worn away, and there are some odd marks on the cutaway on the treble side. These marks almost make it look like a wild animal bit this Jaguar with ferocity, which would have made a great fireside tale: a musician saving his life from a grizzly bear with the help of this Jaguar. But true geeks know where these distinctive marks come from: they're the traces left by the Fender Bodyguard. This gadget, made by Parker for Fender in the '60s and early '70s, was a rubber protector that covered the back of your guitar to prevent scratches. But the problem was that it reacted badly to the finish, resulting in some very strange marks like the ones you see on this Jaguar. A cool guitar with a funny story: that's the beauty of vintage.
